What is growth? For organisms, growth is the ride from birth to death. It can be physical like the growth of our hair, or our limbs as we age.
We’re talking about intangible growth – like a maturity in mental faculties or reasoning.
How do you know you’ve grown?
Like people, organizations often measure their progress over time. Has it benefited all the internal cogs? Are there measurable profits, recognition and reputation?
While great in the short-run, these measurements of growth can be cancerous for both you and the company. How?
Are you paying attention to the emotional well-being of the people? Are they more or less creative/open-minded/skilled than when they first joined the organization? Are they happier?

We came across an interesting bit of research about how we see other people being a reflection of who we are as people – emotionally.
The 2010 study says:
How positively you see others is linked to how happy, kind-hearted and emotionally stable you are, according to new research. In contrast, negative perceptions of others are linked to higher levels of narcissism and antisocial behaviour.
Think of yourself in this context. That’s one way to look at it: How do you see people around you? Is it better or worse than you saw them five years ago?
These are some of the things we focus on at Inara & B-Change. How do you measure growth? Tell us in the comments below.
