Groove on the Grass Dubai welcomes its fifth season in style, announcing six international DJs and a dedicated art, fashion and food offering.
Launching Friday, September 23 2016, the opening night will see Simian Mobile Disco (DJ Set), Max Cooper, Josh Wink, Radio Slave,Clockwork & Avatism (CW/A Live Act) & The Element grace the greens of Emirates Golf Club, kicking off at 5pm.
With five events set to roll out over the next several months, the theme this year is ‘Expanding Horizons’, which will focus on developing the independent electronic music movement in Dubai and pushing the boundaries in artistic programming.
Expect to see a strong emphasis on the audio/visual experience based around surreal futurism in a natural environment.
The opening night will see longstanding English electronic music duo Simian Mobile Disco take to the stage for the first set of the season. Since forming back in 2003, the pair have released eight albums (four studio) and are best known for their early records featuring indie-electro icons such as Beth Ditto of The Gossip and Gruff Rhys of Super Furry Animals.
In recent years they have moved to a more techno-based sound and in 2016 have released four ‘club-ready’ EPs, DELIO16, on their own label Delicacies.
Joining them will be fellow Brit Max Cooper, who makes his debut to the city, bringing with him his own brand of melodic and experimental dance music.
Infusing electronica and classical music with striking audiovisuals that explore scientific concepts, Max’s festival appearances are renowned the world over.
House music legends Josh Wink and Radio Slave have been filling dancefloors since the 1990’s and were key purveyors of the Ibiza Acid House movement.
Italian duo and long-time friends Clockwork & Avatism (CW/A), will join the festival, playing live in Dubai for the first time in their careers. Originating as a live project at Barcelona’s Sonar Festival in 2013, the project has quickly evolved into regular performances focusing on genre-defying sounds from electronica to jungle, and with an intricate live set-up that is a sight to behold. Finally, Maltese star and Sankeys Ibiza resident The Element rounds off proceedings with his dark house and progressive techno.
Feast at food trucks in true festival style, and shop at a marketplace with independent boutiques and craftsmen on site. You can also take part in Capoeira, hooping, yoga and massage treatments while you’re grooving on the grass.
Get a ride with Careem at a discount to and from the festival – Promo code to be announced soon.
