The Irish-American gastropub’s Steak & Wine night, which happen every Tuesday, did not disappoint.
A tempting choice between a NY steak or rump, a carafe of red or white wine with a variety of exceptional sauces is on offer, so if you’re heading there to take advantage, make sure you skip lunch.
“Abu Dhabi’s first gastropub, where American steakhouse meets Irish charm.”
Food:
We jumped right in with our delectable red wine. What was lacking in the pleasant yet unsurprising potato wedges was more than made up for by the cooked-to-perfection sirloin, which was so tender our knives glided through it [just the way we like it].
I opted for the blue cheese sauce, recommended by our enthusiastic and wonderfully attentive server, Archie [he certainly knew his sauces]. The grilled cherry tomatoes were a classic touch, and complimented the rest of the plate, while the side of mashed potato was a creamy delight.
Dessert
To finish, we went for the Bramley Apple Crumble. We thoroughly enjoyed the crunchy and soft dessert but be warned. It’s reserved for those with a sweet tooth – best described as a sweeter interpretation of an old favourite.
The portion sizes were generous too, so it’s perfect for sharing.
Ambience & Service:
The servers went out of their way to be friendly and helpful, and if we so much as emptied our glasses, they were at our side asking if we wanted another one. The bartender’s knowledge of cocktails was clearly extensive and whilst we only asked for a classic prosecco, we were satiated with both the taste or style.
The location, however, seems at odds with the venue. Outside, tennis courts shout ‘health’ whilst inside leather booths and an extensive cocktail list scream ‘indulgence’. Don’t let this put you off, though.
It doesn’t take long to settle into the comforting atmosphere and give in to the desire to treat yourself.
My American companion delighted in the familiar reminder of steak-houses back home, whilst I enjoyed the low-key music and dimmed lighting that allowed me to relax after a hard day. We stayed in the main section, but the outdoor terrace and family friendly areas looked highly accommodating.
Perfect for: Drinks and gossip with the girls, or a family-friendly dinner and drinks session that will keep both the kids and grown-ups satisfied. Go on and let your hair down.
