PARIS – Branislav Ivanovic  headed-in early to give Chelsea the away goal advantage against Paris St. Germain in a well fought draw at the Parc des Princes.

Chelsea’s Serbian right back seems to be on a roll as he as rescued Chelsea quite a few times over the season including vital goals at Liverpool and Aston Villa.

Jose Mourinho’s men seemed to dominate position early on in the game with PSG looking to play on the counter. This worked for PSG till Chelsea nicked a goal through Ivanovic’s header against the run of play.

Following the early strike, Chelsea rarely threatened PSG’s goal with the latter mounting attack after attack. In fact, Thibaut Courtois kept Chelsea in the game early on with key saves against Matuidi and Ibraimovic’s headers in the first half.

However, in the second half, Edinson Cavani deservedly equalised for PSG, putting in a header swung in from a Matuidi cross.

The game ended at one a piece but just about. PSG had continued attacking the Chelsea goal throughout the game.

In last night’s other last 16 game, Xabi Alonso saw red as a 10-man Bayern team drew against Shakhtar Donetsk away at the Arena Liv.

Alonso’s landmark evening ended early as he received his second yellow for a cynical trip in the 25th minute. The departure of the midfielder making his 100th appearance in the Champions League didn’t have much to fret about as the game never quite came to life.

Bayern had recorded only one shot on target the whole game despite its star-studded line-up and the late introduction of Robert Lewandowski.

Shakhtar rarely threatened themselves, though, and Bayern remain favourites to progress although they will be without Alonso for the return leg in Munich.
