1. Grace: A Retrospective of Dance Portraiture and Performance 1986-2004
When: Opening 5:30pm, February 9 to February 25, 2017, Saturday-Thursday, 3-10pm
Where: The Project Space, NYU Abu Dhabi
Always teeming with creative activity, NYUAD Art Centre’s latest collaboration with the Trisha Brown Dance Company bring us select works of Arts Professor Joanne Savio, a prominent and respected American photographer. Gaze at some of the most celebrated dancers and choreographers in the field – taken over a twenty year period.
2. 66lbs by Said Atabekov
When: March 6 to May 12, 2017
Where: Andakulova Gallery, Dubai
If you’re looking to be shocked, get into a heated conversation or look at something that might make your blood curdle, this is the exhibit you’re looking for.
A solo show by Said Atabekov showcases videos of photographs an ancient nomadic tradition in Kazakhstan known as buzkashi – a much more violent version of the game of polo. It’s where riders use their bare hands to pick up a headless sheep or goat from the ground. For your information, 66lbs refers to the mandatory weight of the carcass:
