A major part of being human is the genuine concern we can have for other beings. It’s what sets us apart from animals. It’s what marks the best of humanity. Compassionate selflessness is the ultimate virtue.
The UAE, recognizing this, is nothing, if not charitable, and their latest venture is an admirable effort to bring clean water to countries in need.
This Ramadan marked the launch of yet another clean water charity (you can never have too many) started by the government of UAE, funded by companies such as Union Co-op who made relatively small donation of AED 250,000 in an effort to drill fresh water wells in developing countries.
HH Shaikha Alia bint Khalifa Al Maktoum, who donated AED 1 million and Nakheel who donated a staggering AED 5 million to provide clean drinking water.
The UAE Suqia Water Aid campaign was started by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, as a gift in the holy month of Ramadan.
“We are determined to plant a seed of goodness in every place around the world, as the legacy of the UAE to humanity. Charitable initiatives during Ramadan remind us that the UAE was built upon the eternal principle of doing good in the world,”
said HH Sheikh Mohammed. Truly words of beauty to remind us what the UAE stands for, and the collective good people all over the world should strive for, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
It has been reported that the largest executions of this campaign will be based in Pakistan and Iraq, where they hope to save more than 100,000 lives. Meanwhile, preparatory work has already begun in Afghanistan, India, Niger, Somalia, Ghana, Sudan, Indonesia, Togo and the aforementioned key countries.
Don’t think for a second that if you’re not a big company there’s nothing you can do to help out.
