Diners have been an iconic part of the American culture. If you’ve watched movies like Pulp Fiction or taken a trip to the United States, you will be all too familiar with the delicious food hot off the griddle, folksy service and causal laid-back ambience that diners offer.

When we heard that Dubai was getting its very own 1980s-style all-American diner, Big Daddy’s, it was at the top of our hit-list.

Located at the newly renovated BurJuman mall opposite Carrefour, on the ground floor.

Food

The menu features a range of breakfast, mains and desserts including pancakes, waffles, burgers, and the famous milkshakes and floats.

The Grand Daddy burger is layered with a juicy beef patty, tarter tots, lots of melted cheese and beef bacon. Served with a generous portion of fries, this burger is a great choice, especially for someone who loves sticking to the basics.

Blazing Saddle, on the other hand, is a chicken burger bursting with a bunch of different flavors. The zingy sweet and spicy chili sauce, flavorful pickled jalapenos and spicy mayo may confuse your palate but it’s a good kind of confusing.

Milkshakes!

This brings us to the highlight of our visit: the milkshakes. They were thick, creamy and definitely one of the best ones we’ve tried in Dubai. The Bananas Foster milkshake, served in a glass beautifully glazed with frosted caramel, was a perfect combination of vanilla, caramel and banana.

The Cotton Candy Circus milkshake was recommended to us by our server and as the menu mentioned ‘you gotta see it to believe it’: It’s candy pink in color, topped with cotton candy and sprinkles.

Ambience & Service 

You’re transported back in time the moment you walk in. A colorful, funky interior where walls are adorned with images, posters and knick knacks synonymous with the American culture greet you.

It even features an arcade with games like Contra and Double Dragon. We were happy to note our gaming skills are still up to snuff.

Reflective of traditional American hospitality, the staff is all-smiles and ready to share their recommendations.

The pricing is economical for the portions and the service is prompt.
