Chris Trueman wanted to revisit an early childhood memory of when he was 5. That was the first time, he says, he “intentionally tried to harm intelligent life”. He bought the ants from an ant farm, killing them with cotton and nail polish remover, and then placing them with tweezers in the arrangement. It was a difficult feat, he says, as he had to take a year off because halfway through the work he felt bad for killing the ants.
Again, it raises the question: Is it okay to kill living creatures for art?
