Eat the World DXB to debut first weekend of the Dubai Food Festival February 25-27.

London’s finest international food trucks have begun their 4,000-mile journey from the UK to the UAE for the first-ever Eat the World DXB – a hip, new street food event bringing 15 of the English capital’s most diverse culinary concepts to the bustling Burj Park next month, as part of the 2016 Dubai Food Festival which takes place from February 25 – March 12.

The eclectic food trucks – including a converted ambulance – were loaded into containers in dreary London conditions yesterday and transported by lorry to The Port of Felixstowe, in Suffolk. The colourful convoy of London’s finest mobile eateries will then be loaded onto tankers and shipped to Jebel Ali Port for an unusually warm winter in the Dubai sunshine.

A contemporary street food, music and entertainment event, Eat the World DXB is expected to attract a bumper crowd of 20,000 Emiratis, expats and tourists from February 25-27. In addition to the 15 London food trucks, the event will feature the UAE’s leading food trucks, an artisan food market, an exciting array of culinary experiences and a bill of UAE-based session musicians and instrumentalists.

“The miserable British winter is not exactly a revenue high point for our traders but it’s not just the Dubai weather they are looking forward to – the traders can’t wait to arrive in the UAE and see what the local foodies think of their dishes and diverse offerings,” said Philip Lowery, Eat the World DXB’s Director.

“London’s food truck movement has been setting international trends for years and Eat the World DXB will bring some of the world’s most innovative culinary concepts to Dubai. We had more than 100 applications from London traders and cutting the selection down to a final 15 was extremely difficult. Although Dubai and the wider UAE is building an energetic food truck community, Eat the World DXB is an opportunity for local traders to observe the industry-leading products of their London counterparts – the event can be a catalyst for an even more dynamic food truck movement on these shores.”

Food truck traders already confirmed for the event include Fish Dogs – which offers an exciting take on the classic fish finger sandwich – by world-renowned London chef Mark Hix.

Other food truck’s confirmed include The Crema Caravan, a husband and wife team specialising in mouth-watering Crème Brulees, and Oli Babas, whose famous Halloumi fries are set to be a sure-fire hit. The truck serves deep-fried cheese served on a bed of za’atar yogurt, dressed with pomegranate molasses, sumac, Turkish chilli, mint and pomegranate seeds.
