There’s no feeling quite like walking into a serene art gallery, staring at paintings and photographs, leaving your own world – just for a little while – and existing in a different dimension – one of art.

Art Week is around the corner and it’s time to get the appreciation wheels oiled. Guess at artist’s intentions or get caught up in debate about a work’s aesthetic.

Grab a friend and mark your calendars for these two upcoming photography exhibits in UAE – in Dubai and Abu Dhabi:

1. Grace: A Retrospective of Dance Portraiture and Performance 1986-2004

When: Opening 5:30pm, February 9 to February 25, 2017, Saturday-Thursday, 3-10pm

Where: The Project Space, NYU Abu Dhabi

Always teeming with creative activity, NYUAD Art Centre’s latest collaboration with the Trisha Brown Dance Company bring us select works of Arts Professor Joanne Savio, a prominent and respected American photographer. Gaze at some of the most celebrated dancers and choreographers in the field – taken over a twenty year period.

2. 66lbs by Said Atabekov

Wolves of The Steppes (Airborne Forces)

When: March 6 to May 12, 2017

Where: Andakulova Gallery, Dubai

If you’re looking to be shocked, get into a heated conversation or look at something that might make your blood curdle, this is the exhibit you’re looking for.

A solo show by Said Atabekov showcases videos of photographs an ancient nomadic tradition in Kazakhstan known as buzkashi – a much more violent version of the game of polo. It’s where riders use their bare hands to pick up a headless sheep or goat from the ground. For your information, 66lbs refers to the mandatory weight of the carcass:
